Wellington South Kindergarten is located in the central city suburb of Newtown. It has wonderful and amazing diversity among those who make up our learning community. It is a vibrant multicultural community with many ethnic groups represented at the kindergarten. Many of the parents and children are born outside of New Zealand and for many, English is a second language. A large proportion of families live in small high rise rental accommodation with little or no playground.
At Wellington South we view children as tāonga and feel privileged to have their whānau entrust them in our care. We have a philosophy of free play and encourage the development of independence, confidence and competence. We are building an integrated service where we continue to develop a range of relationships with other organisations. We believe that early childhood services should be community hubs that support the wellbeing of our children and families by building connections to important services within a supportive environment. We support two playgroups at Wellington South. On Mondays we run free English language lessons for anyone who is interested. On Tuesdays we have our Pride and Joy playgroup which is for gay, lesbian, donor and transgender families.
